Released in 1966, The Swinger From Rio is perhaps the best example of a genre defining record, capturing pianist Sergio Mendes playing straight up Bossa Nova with a stellar line-up of seasoned musicians. The Swinger From Rio features jazz giants Hubert Laws on flute, Art Farmer on flugelhorn and Phil Woods on alto sax. The album reserves a special guest spot for the famed Antônio Carlos Jobim on violin, whose writing credits include the Jazz standard "The Girl From Ipanema".
