It is 9 p.m. on February 10, 1961, when Norman Granz takes the stage of Amsterdam's Concertgebouw to announce one of the Oscar Peterson Trio's most sensational concerts. Norman Granz is the greatest impesario and producer in the history of jazz. Behind the scenes is his protégé, whom he heard by chance on the radio of a cab in Montreal one night in 1949 and whom he would later take to the top of jazz pianists. On this evening, he introduces him as 'the indescribable one'.
It can be said that Peterson plays 100 notes when others play 10, but his virtuosity put itself perfectly at the service of the music. The flowing first notes of the introduction set the tone for an extraordinary concert.... This is the first release of this recording.
