"New Sound of Classical - Epic Orchestra" is a colorful kaleidoscope of sounds, ranging from bombastic orchestral scores featuring a fully fledged choir and organ, to intimate, peaceful works for solo violin and string ensemble. The album is a journey of sounds that builds up like a DJ set and draws each individual piece, despite their variations in feeling and color, into a coherent musical experience. The recording is a tribute to some of the greatest composers alive and a testimony of the extraordinary creativity of those who have invented the "new sound of classical" with not much more than a pen in their hands and a visionary idea in their minds.The works recorded were written by: Hans Zimmer, Ramin Djawadi, Alexandre Desplat, Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, Philip Glass, Max Richter, Karl Jenkins, Vladimir Martynov, Johannes Motschmann, Chilly Gonzales and Ludovico Einaudi.The huge Philharmonic Orchestra of German public radio station NDR was recorded with as many as 90 microphones during a four-day recording session to create a modern and direct sound, luring the listener into the fascinating experience of the composers' epic arrangements. Next to the orchestra, the award-winning vocal group Pop Up and a list of world-class soloists have contributed to this unique recording: organ player Cameron Carpenter, soprano Olga Peretyatko, violinists Eldbjørg Hemsing and Johanna Röhrig, as well as pianists Rahel Senn and Sebastian Knauer. The individual colors of each of the contributing artists are painted into one musical experience by the two accomplished conductors Ben Palmer and Michael England.
