Juan De Lerida and his family left Spain to escape the brutality of the Franco regime, but he never lost touch with his Gypsy roots. He taught himself guitar at the age of four by copying what he heard on flamenco recordings. One of the founders of the Nuevo Flamenco style, De Lerida did not make his name through recordings. He had been a kind of local legend, well known in his own community, waiting until age 40 to release his first album, Quimeras. De Lerida's music is a unique blend of flamenco, tinged with jazz, world music and even classical flavors. For his second album Noche En Blanco, De Lerida has partnered with Seville native David Pena Dorantes, descendent of a famous line of Andalusian Gypsies.
