Howlin' Wolf's Memphis Days: The Definitive Collection, Vol. 1 collects some of his earliest recordings, as produced by Sam Phillips at his Memphis studio during several sessions in 1951 and '52. As soon as Phillips – best known for discovering and recording Elvis Presley – heard Howlin' Wolf perform on KWEM radio, he arranged for Chester Burnett (1910 – 1976) a.k.a. Howlin' Wolf to come to his studio and put down some tracks.<br /> The 21 songs presented here show different aspects of Howlin' Wolf's still developing material.
