At the time of the last concerts in 1967, the Dave Brubeck Quartet had already been in existence for 16 years, with more or less the same line-up. That's how familiar the four of them were with each other! Dave and Paul made their debut at the Black Hawk nightclub in San Francisco.
Their trademark: Breaking down racial barriers, which they fought against unflinchingly even in the most extreme period of McCarthyism, and making jazz accessible to as many people as possible by reinterpreting ballads, folk songs or great themes from classical music. Above all, however, they developed an almost infinite variety of complex rhythms.
In Scheveningen, on the evening of October 24, 1967, the Dave Brubeck Quartet was more than just a jazz band. It was the ambassador of American music in Europe.
