It expresses Bloch's innermost struggles and emotions, revealing his complex talents through rhapsodic forms, exceptional polyphony and modal tonalities. Inspired by Walt Whitman, the <i>Poems of</i> <i>the Sea </i>depict the oceans with striking clarity, including flavours of Irish folk music.
