AAD / CANNES CLASSICAL AWARD, Francie / Reissue: First General Release on CD - 2002<br> <br> Once again Supraphon takes advantage of the wealth of fine recordings contained in its archive to reintroduce listeners to the very unique talents of Romanian conductor Constantin Silvestri (1913-1969). In 1956, at the peak of his creative powers, Silvestri emigrated, and once the western world had become acquainted with his conducting he developed into an important musical personality whose work is well worth remembering today. Besides Enescu's Romanian Rhapsodies - the present rendering of which, on account of Enescu's national origins, we may regard as being indeed authentic - our recording also includes works of French music, in which field Silvestri was also particularly highly respected. The solo part of Lalo's D minor Cello Concerto receives a superb performance here by another of the 20th century's legendary artists, French cellist André Navarra (1911-1988).
